Peter Green

Hi,
thanks for visiting my website.
My focus at present is on understanding how to paint figures in the their environment. I want to be more of a figurative painter which includes portraiture.
I am keen to develop in this area. My method is to carry out studies in pencil and then explore different mediums - pencil, pastel, or oil to suit the particular portrait or painting that I am working on. I have completed a number of commissioned works, more recently of children. This is very challenging as they never seem to stop moving. So my method is to spend time with the child and the family just chatting , observing and taking numerous digital photographs and sketches if there is time. Using this reference material I pull together the emotional and visual information to produce a piece of work which connects with the viewer. I am now also using reference photos taken in informal situations to catch that fleeting image which is there for just a moment. It makes a painting more informal and accessible to a wider range of people.
Drawing skills are the key to good portrait art as we all want a recognizable image. So, much of my time is spent drawing. I am not a purest in approach and believe a judicious use of digital photography is quite acceptable if you want to capture people in interesting situations. Please view the rest of my website to see my work and email me with your views and comments. It's helpful to get feedback.
